ANNOUNCEMENT

Starting in late July 2008 we are installing a scheduling system on the Library's public computers. This system will help us to ensure that all of our patrons have equal access to our computer resources.

Each computer will require a log on procedure. Please read the following guidelines and understand the log on procedure and policies

1. You must have a valid Mid-York Library System card to log on to the computer. If you are a visitor or do have a library card, you may get one at the circulation desk. There is no charge for a new card.

2. You are free to sit at any open, available public computer except for the Macintosh computers in the Children’s Area. These are reserved for children 13 years old and under, and accompanying parents or caretakers.

3. On an available computer monitor, you will see a log-on screen that asks for your Mid-York Library Card number. Log in by typing in your 13 digit card number (do not type in the "A"). If you are a library-card holder in good standing, the computer will open as usual for program access.  If no computer appears to be available, go to the circulation desk to request a computer.  The library staff will schedule you for the next available computer.

4. Your computer time on the libraries public computers is assigned in ONE HOUR blocks of time. If people are waiting for computers you may need relinquish your computer after one hour.

5. A clock in a corner of the screen keeps track of the time remaining in your session. You will be given a 5-minute and a 1-minute warning on the computer screen that your one-hour session is about to end. If there is no one waiting to use a computer you will be given a chance to extend the session. When your time is up the computer will automatically close at the end of your session and clear all records made during the session.

6. You may walk away from the computer while you are logged on, but if you do so, the computer continues to clock your session and, after 10 minutes of inactivity, the computer will close out and clear as usual.

7. The computer will warn you on-screen 15 minutes and 10 minutes before the Library closing time and the computer will turn itself off 5 minutes before the Library closes.

Note: If you require extended hours for a special project, please contact the circulation desk for a special computer reservation.
